  • Our tips for enjoying this coffee:

We recommend this coffee for "gentle" extraction methods such as Pour Over, French press, Chemex, and similar techniques. Its delicate roast ensures a subtle and refined extraction with these methods.

While it can also be enjoyed using espresso, Turkish, or Moka pot methods, we generally suggest opting for one of our 1936 coffees for a more stable and balanced experience with these preparations.

You can enjoy it daily in our coffee shops, brewed with Kalita and Chemex.

  • About this selection:

The Gatare Washing Station, established in 2003 in the Nyamasheke district in western Rwanda, is one of the pioneers in processing high-quality coffees for export. It has built a strong reputation thanks to the consistency of its lots, which are often ranked among the best in prestigious competitions such as the Cup of Excellence.

Despite strong local competition, Gatare works with over 1,000 smallholder farmers, who grow coffee on very small plots. All of them receive training to improve both quality and yield. The station currently processes around 400 tons of coffee cherries per year.

Since 2016, it has been managed by Fred, who places great emphasis on knowledge-sharing. The team is made up of 7 permanent staff members and 90 seasonal workers, the vast majority of whom are women.

This coffee offers a smooth and balanced cup, with notes of apricot, cinnamon, and milk chocolate.
