Cupping Event @ Mercanta

End of last week, I was P18-12-09_17.24invited in London by our coffee importer Mercanta for their first cupping event of the year. For those of you who don’t know « cupping », it’s the professionnal word for coffee tasting.

In total, I had the opportunity to taste 36 coffees, 3 tables of 12 coffees each. And a lot of damn good coffees.

Among my favorites :

Nicaragua Finca Santa Maura 100% Maracatu, an hybrid variety of Maragogype and Caturra (nice acidity, juicy, great fruit quality, notes of peach and lemon)

Very nice lots of kenyan coffee, 2010 will be another stellar year for one of the greatest producing country in the world. We have for the moment the bright and full body Tinganga Estate in the shops, and more to come…

Our new lot of Yirgacheffe from the region of Cabey is just one of the best Yirgacheffe I’ve ever tasted. Very floral, bright, deep aroma, notes of peach and jasmine.

Very soon we’ll propose you new crop from Colombia (Matituy, Narino). Medium orange acidity, very sweet and easy to drink, lot of fruits. Check these days the shops for availability. I know some you are waiting for this one.

Other favorites among the 3 tables : Ethiopia Harrar, Costa Rica Finca Candelilla 100% Geisha, Guatemala Finca Santa Clara (Antigua), Guatemala Finca San Francisco Tecuamburro – El Pollo lot

Thank you very much to all Mercanta team. We are very pleased to work with you and with such quality coffees.
